A Trim Walkthrough With Podiatrist Brandon King
In our latest education YouTube video for farriers, veterinarians and horse owners, Dr. Brandon King, DVM, is back at a repeat client's barn, applying his expertise as an equine podiatrist to fit keg shoes on the front feet of a horse.
King uses the Noble Farriery Trim Methodology to trim and shape the foot for maximum soundness in this trimming cycle — not overdressing, and not trying to overcorrect the distortions in one go, which could compromise the hoof and put the horse off balance. King then customizes keg shoes to balance with these slight distortions while encouraging the hoof to grow in a more balanced fashion. Next cycle, the process repeats, but further along towards perfect balance.
As he works in this video, Dr. King provides insights into the mechanics of the hoof and the importance of a proper trim. Whether you're a farrier, vet, or horse owner, this collaboration between farriery and veterinary podiatry is something you won't want to miss!
