“Standardized Trim and Specialized Shoes” on YouTube
Noble Farriery’s latest look behind the scenes of a multi-farrier business is live on YouTube. This chapter is heavy on Trim Talk as well as specialized forging techniques.
First, we see the farriery team convene to give the apprentices, Brendan and Delano, a lot of insights into why we trim the way we do and what it does for the internal structures of the hoof. Next, Seth Noble takes us out in the field to Skyland Ranch, where he puts these techniques into action with horse Festus. However, this is a special case, as it is the first time Seth has shod a horse for Skijøring.
If you haven’t heard much about Skijøring, get caught up on this equine winter sport, which has started to grab much more attention in recent years. We recently wrote a blog with that history to accompany a long video focused only on Seth’s trimming and shoeing and rider KC Letterman’s recent connection to the sport. Read that here.
In Chapter 16, you also get a look at KC and Festus in action at one of their events in January. While we’re happy that spring is almost here, we have a new reason to look forward to winter this year.
Finally, we meet Shay, another horse in need of a specially adjusted shoe. Seth walks us through the importance of measuring hooves correctly and how shoe size impacts a horse’s comfort and movement. Whether you're a horse owner, farrier, or just love learning about the craft, this video gives you an inside look at the skill and precision that goes into every shoeing session.
