Video Walkthrough: Resetting Keg Shoes
What’s the right way to reset keg shoes? In our latest long-form video on YouTube, Principal Farrier Seth Noble walks you through the process with horse Cassie at Holly Farm in Bothell, WA.
Cassie is a well-mannered horse who doesn’t need much hoof taken off. We take you through each step of the reset—removing the old shoes, trimming just enough for a balanced hoof based on our standardized trimming methodology, and nailing the shoes back on. Seth provides brief insights along the way, making this a great watch for horse owners, farriers, or anyone curious about the craft.
As you watch, you’ll note that we always make sure when reusing a shoe that it is forged to still be a perfect fit and all aspects of it are cleaned. We also use Artimud to fill in any potential sites of infection before reapplying a pad, such as in and around the sulci, where thrush can thrive in the warm, wet spring days ahead.
